The Mike Rood Communion is comprised of some of New York City's most prominent young musicians. Guitarist and composer Mike Rood was born in NYC, and has been leading his own groups for the last several years, performing throughout the US, at dozens of NYC venues, such as Carnegie Hall, Bruno Walter Auditorium, Iridium, Fat Cat, and Sweet Rhythm, and recently at the Bern Jazz Festival in Switzerland. Rood has studied with Bruce Dunlap, Adam Rogers, Vic Juris, John Abercrombie, and Kenny Werner, and has performed with such musicians as John Patitucci, Jimmy Heath, Matt Wilson, Dick Oatts, and Rogerio Boccato.
The group features Mike Rood on guitar, Mike Bjella on saxophone, Chris Tordini on bass, and Tommy Crane on drums. Since its formation in 2008, the group has developed a fresh, progressive and original sound and style, with influences ranging from contemporary jazz, classical chamber music, and various world musics.
